Laurens County School District 55 is committed to providing professional development opportunities for all faculty and staff. A professional development plan that addresses certified and classified staff and their requirements for professional development is in place. Professional development days are included annually in the district's calendar to allow staff members to attend workshops and meetings. All certified staff members are required to meet with their building administrators to establish professional goals, review documentation, and review progress toward completion of their goals.
The district offers professional development opportunities in a variety of ways.
School-based professional development is offered during the day and after school.
Districtwide professional development is offered on Tuesdays after school at least once a month for all content areas.
Mini-courses are offered three times a year for teachers to choose the training that meets their professional need.
Workshops, conferences, best practice seminars and other professional development opportunities that are sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Education are made available throughout the year.
Book studies are used to stay abreast of current research and best practice.
Job-alike meetings and trainings are held throughout the year to assist special groups with information, techniques and job performance duties that have changed.
Summer opportunities for professional development are provided.
The district has a partnership with at least three institutions of higher education that are providing graduate level opportunities to certified staff.
