Willa A. Johnson is the 2011 – 2012 LDHS Teacher of the Year. She is also the 2011 – 2012 Laurens School District 55 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Johnson teaches Math at LDHS and has been teaching for twenty-five years. She has a Master of Education in Technology in Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass. She has a Bachelor of Theology from Christian Life School of Theology in Columbus, GA. She has a Master of Education in Middle School Mathematics and Reading in Content Area from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. And Mrs. Johnson also has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education from SC State University in Orangeburg, SC. Mrs. Johnson came to LDHS in August of 2000. She has previously taught at Hephizabeth High School in Hephizabeth, Georgia; Hilsman Middle School in Athens, Georgia; Greenwood Alternative School in Greenwood, South Carolina and Hancock Central High School in Sparta, Georgia. Mrs. Johnson has received many awards and teaching recognition prior to her Teacher of the Year awards. She has been the Math Department Chairperson (LDHS), Teacher Advisory Council, School Improvement Council (LDHS), Teacher of the Month, Director of Christian Education (Laurel Hill Baptist Church), Director of Youth Ministry (Laurel Hill Baptist Church),Dedicated Service Award for Summer Enrichment Program 2007 (Mt. Zion Baptist Church, taught high school math), Head of Math Department (Hilsman Middle School, 1994 –1996), Class of 1985 Teacher of the Year (Hancock Central High School, Sparta, Georgia).
