Barry Atkinson is one of only six inductees this year and is the first athletic trainer to receive this honor. The induction ceremony took place at the SCACA awards banquet in Charleston on
July 26, 2009. In addition to this award, Atkinson was awarded the Founders Award at the South Carolina Athletic Trainers Association July meeting. This association is made up of all professional, collegiate, high school, and clinical athletic trainers in South Carolina. Coach Atkinson has served the athletes of Laurens District High School since 1981. He is a 1972 graduate of Pageland High School and is the son of Edith Atkinson and the late Charles Atkinson of Mt. Croghan. Atkinson is married to Martha Kay Atkinson and is the father of two children, Dan and Mandy. |
