Goal:  My goal is to provide students with knowledge about life science and hands on science experiences that make learning life science fun and exciting.

What you will be learning about:

Scientific Method, Metric System, Inquiry, Chemistry, Cells, Hereditary, Human Body Systems, Disease, and Ecology

 

When you are done with this course you should be able to:

ü      Demonstrate and understand technological design and scientific inquiry, including process skills, mathematical thinking, controlled investigative design and analysis, and problem solving.

ü      Demonstrate and understand the structure and function of cells, cellular reproduction, and heredity..

ü      Demonstrate and understand the functions and connections of the major human body systems, including the breakdown in structure or function that disease causes.

ü      Demonstrate and understand how organisms interact with and respond to the biotic and abiotic components of their environment.

ü      Demonstrate and understand the classifications and properties of matter and the changes that matter undergoes.

 

Student Responsibilities:

1.       Planner and Supplies

a.       You are expected to bring your planner to class every day.

b.      You need to bring your composition notebook, loose leaf notebook paper, and a pen or pencil every day.

2.       Mini Lessons

a.        Mini Lessons will be posted on the board or the overhead to complete daily.

b.      Mini Lesson checks will happen regularly and students will earn participation points for completed mini lesson work.

3.       Late Class work or Homework Assignments

a.       I will not accept any late homework or class work. Please use class time wisely.

b.      If you have been absent you may make up class work/homework missed within a week’s time.

4.       Grading

a.       I use a “total points” system of grading.

b.      Students will earn points on their notebooks by a quiz type method.  The notebook will contain all work completed pertaining to Science class.  (50 pts)

c.       Participation grades will be given for mini lessons. (25 pts)

d.      Homework will be given mandatorily EVERY Wednesday but may also be given other days (25 pts)

e.      Quizzes will be given EVERY Thursday.  (50 pts)

f.        Current Events will be due monthly.(50 pts)

g.       Tests and projects will be assigned. (100 pts)

PARTICIPATION IN CLASS IS CRUCIAL TO BOTH THE STUDENT’S GRADE AS WELL AS TEACHER ASSESSMENT.  THE STUDENT TAKES CHARGE OF HIS/HER EDUCATION!  Ms. Banister doesn’t give any grades, YOU earn them.
