Writing the Constructed Response

Constructed-response items are essay-type questions that require an originally written answer. For each question, you will be given one page with lines for writing your answer to the item.

Some constructed response items will be in the form of a question; others will be statements that you will need to write about or respond to.

You DO NOT have to fill the entire page to get a top score on the question (The length of your answer will depend on the particular question.)  Try to write at least half a page. Remember though, emphasis on scoring will probably be placed on the quality, not the quantity, of your answer.

·       As you begin your reply to the item, be sure to use part of the question in framing your response. Doing so will help you focus your answer and increase your chances of a correct response.
